Upgrading
If you have an older version of the MetaPhilter system, you can easily update your existing installation without losing any of your prior settings.
You will need the latest source release of MetaPhilter to upgrade your Philters.
Note: This procedure will update your MetaPhilter system scripts only. For information on updating your templates, consult the MetaPhilter Changelog and Default Templates listing. They should help you assimilate the latest features of MePhi into your existing templates.
Upload only the files contained in the 'mp' directory of the downloaded source release to your MetaPhilter system directory, overwriting older files as necessary.
Point your browser to the configuration script, 'configure.php', in your MetaPhilter system path. It will load any new Philter variables and your prior settings should not be disregarded.
If you're upgrading to MetaPhilter 1.4:
Jump to "Site Settings". Enter a new value for your "MetaPhilter path" setting.
Suggested read: XML-RPC API
If you're upgrading from MetaPhilter .6:
Jump to "Structuring Database". Click the button that reads "A database which requires the addition of new MetaPhilter structure." This will modify your user tables to include the new user grouping structure.
If you're upgrading from MetaPhilter .5:
Jump to "Structuring Database". Click the button that reads "A database which requires the addition of new MetaPhilter structure." This will add new columns required for user preferences and site visit tracking.
If you're upgrading from MetaPhilter .4:
Jump to "Structuring Database". Click the button that reads "A database which requires the addition of new MetaPhilter structure." This will convert your old link categories to the new numerical system.
If you're upgrading from MetaPhilter .3:
Jump to "Structuring Database". Click the button that reads "A database which requires the addition of new MetaPhilter structure." This will add the table prefixing required for the multiple Philter support of the MePhi .4 system.
If you're upgrading from MetaPhilter .2:
Nothing requires immediate concern. You can proceed to rebuild the configuration file, or:
Jump to "Site Settings" and enter a description of your Philter.
Jump to "Link Settings" and modify the default title for your links, the default days of links listed, and the successful link message.
Jump to "Comment Settings" and modify the successful comment message.
If you're upgrading from MetaPhilter .1:
Jump to "Structuring Database". Click the button that reads "A database which requires the addition of new MetaPhilter structure." This will add the new 'pings' table to the MetaPhilter database.
Jump to "Link Settings". In version .1, the included index for displaying posted links was 'comments.php'. In the .2 release, this index has been renamed to 'link.php'. If you choose not to rename this template, modify the "Path to individual link threads" variable accordingly. This value is used for directing pinged sites to your Philter's posted links.
Rebuild the configuration file. Your upgrade won't be complete until this file has been rebuilt.
