2008 Aug 18 05:31 (#3967.11772):A few things:
My yearbook pictures looked a lot like the 1996 photo, so apparently I was 2 years behind in fashion. No surprises there. The 1976 photo looks remarkably like Phil's hair does now (he's been avoiding Bird's lately). They also don't list the Eden Prairie Center on the list of malls. Another missed opportunity.
2008 Aug 12 10:05 (#3961.11752):Reading about the pictograms reminded me of a previous Olympics that had neat icons - the '94 winter Olympics. I wasn't able to find a complete set, but just found this one photo. They are based on Scandinavian petroglyphs. I thought they were pretty cool, but I might be slightly biased.
There's a collection of icons from previous summer Olympics here.
2008 Aug 12 06:30 (#3961.11751):Those "squiggly-line sport icons" are not just on NBC's page. They are the official sport icons from the Beijing Organizing Committee:
The Beijing Organizing Committee have released pictograms of the 35 Olympic disciplines. This set of sport icons is named the beauty of seal characters, due to each pictogram's likeness to Chinese seal script.
And yes, they are pretty cool.

Maybe I'll try it again in a few days and see if it comes up the same. I haven't read anything about what they are all supposed to mean.Does this thread win yet for most comments?
2008 Jun 10 05:38 (#3884.11417):Photos of the fire damage on Austinist. Maybe Perry would like to rethink the financial impact of his temporary residence when the restoration bill gets updated to include fire damage.
2008 Jun 08 06:19 (#3881.11404):That no-legged runner was the subject of a Wired article last year. There was some question about whether he was eligible to compete in the Olympics because some claimed his carbon fiber running legs gave him an unfair advantage. Apparently that's been cleared up and he gets to compete.
2008 Jun 06 01:54 (#3863.11394):This is probably old news for any Journey fans out there, but Hijinks Ensue pointed out to me today that Journey has a new lead singer. Be sure to check out the video since, as Joel from HE points out, this new guy sounds more like Steve Perry than Steve Perry. The best part of the Wired article is the rabid Steve Perry fan objecting to calling Steve Perry obsolete.
Also, Boston hires a Home Depot employee to be their lead singer.
Also also, if you wear chain mail while jamming, this guy wants you to be in his band.
