2010 Jul 15 07:49 (#4212.12788):i did try the wagyu. reediculously tasty beef!
i recently had to go on a statin. after 10+ years of vegetarianism, my cholesterol was still over 230. my step-father's dad came over from germany, ate schnitzel fried in butter, buttered bread, hell, butter beer every day and never had elevated cholesterol. it's all in the genes.
2010 Apr 03 04:54 (#4203.12741):Yup, and time does funny things around black holes and when I shift into 12th gear. Just trying to get my mind around cats in boxes and 4th dimensions without getting caught up in a stoned soul picnic.
Trying to get my mind around this while Sparty and the Mountaineers are playing is gonna hafta wait.
2010 Apr 02 11:58 (#4203.12739):Is time linear?
2009 Sep 12 08:56 (#4184.12642):My authorship is limited to psychology, but I've been in an anti-drug commercial with Greg Louganis (BN=3, from which I was cut), a TV special ("Sex in the '80s") with Geraldo Rivera (BN=3, from which only my voice and left foot appear), and was an extra in Alien Nation (BN=3, I made it in!).
I just need someone with a low Erdos # to write a paper with me about stats and perception, or perhaps how stochatic processes better predict stranger anxiety.
2009 Aug 19 12:14 (#4182.12632):heh, I must have liked The Claw's prose. Enjoy.
2009 Aug 15 12:25 (#4181.12629):They've skyrocketed cuz it's the Age of Aquarius man ;)
I've been a veg for over a decade now, but am seriously considering buying a house with enough land to raise my own cow. I still love meat, but I wonder how my body will react to it after all this time =)
Something else I would love to look into would be some kind of cooking co-op. I guess McDonald's qualifies as one, but i'm thinking something more along the lines of fresh, conscious, madewithlove grub. I like to cook sometimes, but every night is a drag honestly.
2009 Jul 13 12:38 (#4170.12596):Having lived too close to the artic circle, and having indoor and outdoor job experience, I can say with a reasonable amount of first hand experience that heat>cold... Although I wish Austin had mountains =/
I turned down jobs up north to return to central Texas, so I guess salsa>mountains as well.
I was just up on Mt. Hood/in Portland tho and the PNW is tugging at me, but ya gotta have some place to vacation =)
2009 Jul 10 11:08 (#4170.12592):I just got back to WV this morning from house hunting in Temple. It was hot and I have been away for 3 years now, but I was ok with it all despite having to run around sunny backyards and all.
I still remember the 2nd year I was in Austin when I was at Polvo's with a group of friends. We were stuck next to each other sweating and just generally gross. I looked around and saw that everyone else was glistening with Austin dew and thought to myself, "Self, everyone is in the same boat. You can't be out here and not have a lil' sheen to your skin." The heat never really bothered me after that. Or maybe I just learned that margaritas are good for ignoring the less savory aspects of al fresco dining in August.
2009 Jul 04 06:15 (#4165.12585):Now, I'm a Californian by birth. Just b/c my family believes in keeping our strong genes in the family is no reason to conflate my current domicile with Appalachian parentage.
It is comforting thinking I may be related to Natedogg though.
If I were Cablinasian (http://www.salon.com/april97/tiger970430.html), I could claim much closer heritage to many more people though.
2009 May 31 09:35 (#4150.12560):happy? ugh, my reading of the lit (and the results of 1 positive psych course) is that we all have a "happiness setpoint." the researchers are trying to figure out how to move it, but long term it seems fairly immutable for now. there's some fun ways to feel happy in the short run tho.
for the record, i differentiate between happiness and joy. happiness is short term pleasure, while joy comes from fulfillment. my best guess is that the lit will bear me (and most religious traditions) out on this. relationships are where the money is =) money and experiences are where short term pleasure is
