Every piece of popular music ever written is just a cover of Pachelbel's Canon in D -- a truth which I've long suspected
RIP Hardest Working Man in Show Business. Maceo Parker, formerly the second-hardest working man in show business, and George Clinton, Deputy Minister of Funk, will both vie for the position of "Soul Brother #1" in special plenary elections to be held later this month. Enjoy this Interview with James Brown on CNN (courtesy of the Show With No Name).

What happens when you cross a Wii-mote with an RC Car. Click the image on the page for a video of a guy who built a Wiimote (controller from the Nintendo Wii console) control for his RC car. The car moves forward/backward side to side all by simply tilting the remote. Very clever and very cool.

Apparently, the Cubs are big in Germany. Second only to David Hasslehof, I guess.
Addicts Repent! Hopefully his ranking will rise a bit. Does that make me an enabler?
Will it Blend?
Apparently this company makes pretty badass blenders -- their smallest motor base weighs in at 3HP. iPod? Three hockey pucks? 50 marbles? A garden rake? Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes, it Blends! The best by far, though, is the crowbar video. Mmmnm, that's some good bass Tilapia!

If you are just getting started with your day today, why not do a little Bodyflex? Faces are not optional. You may not believe it works at first but you have to listen to the words of creator Jack Ching Chung Chang.

That Other Paper -- Austin's only paper.
Left Behind, the video game - Ever say to yourself "Self, what I'd really like to play is a crappier form of Deus Ex but with more dicey eschatology and a whole heap more of that dreamy Kirk Cameron?" Well, you'll be glad to know that Left Behind is now a video game. This Ars Technica review (considerably more balanced than my snarky intro) is worth reading for the informative rundown of Christian end-of-world mythologies and how they fit in to major strains of Christianity alone. Does that sound like the type of thing that SomethingAwful's goons could really fuck with? You bet your Stoat Box it does! (By the way, search guide BryanT is my new hero)

The 50 Greatest Commercials of the ’80s - with commentary. Some overlap with this venerable repository, but more youtube-ey. Don't miss #10, in which a familiar face apologizes not so much for fucking a hooker as for paying her by check; and #43, an advertiser promo for "Small Wonder" that as one observant commenter notes is repeatedly intercut with footage from the movie Die Hard.

The National Science Teachers Association turned down free copies of An Inconvenient Truth because they didn't want to get political. Or because they didn't want to piss off donors. Or because they didn't think it was particularly useful for science classes. [more inside]
