The Rhode Island School of Design is considered one of the premiere fine arts and design schools in our nation. It is also home to my new favorite sports team name: the RISD Hockey Nads. (Go Nads! F'reals!) Their hoops team? The Balls. Their mascot? Scrotie, a giant foam cock'n'balls that goes to all the hockey games... At least, the ones the other team lets him attend. (PS the links above are totally safe for work, as long as you like looking at human-scale foam dildos and cartoon hockey-sticks-and-testicles while at work). [via deadspin]

- You can spectate "your athlete" at the Danskin, although this website isn't very helpful about where to stand.
- At least one tennis ball repressurizer operates via a pump, but others work by screwing the two sides together with balls in the middle. It's not as clear now well they work.
- Racquetball colors are mostly determined by manufacturer and whether the ball is extra bouncy, etc. It doesn't look like there is a particular universal system.
- reid pointed out that one can swim in viscous fluids as fast as one can in water. Clickable explanations here and here
For those who don't know, Joe Lieberman faces a primary opponent this year. But this time, his victory is not assured. In an election with the constituency limited to party insiders, Joe, the most republican democratic senator in congress, was only able to hold on to 2/3 of CT party activists. By transeferrance, this gives his challenger Ned Lamont, an excellent chance at not only entering the US Senate, but banishing one of the Dems' biggest traitors. If Lieberman is repacled, PLUS, several republicvans re repalced with dems, 2006 could be as big as 1994.
Go, Ned, go!

Zefrank's The Show is the best weekday updated site that you're not watching. Today's show addresses the question: How can you be in the League of Awesomeness? Answer: document yourself making an earth sandwich (laying two slices of bread on opposite sides of the earth). He even provides an excellent tool to help you find places to make your opposite sandwich. Hint: as amazing to me as this is, the entire United States and Russia are opposite only ocean, while only Spain in all of Europe is opposite land (New Zealand, in fact). So it looks like your best bets are South America and China. [more inside]

Fewer Pirates = More Global Warming From http://www.venganza.org/
"You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s. For your interest, I have included a graph of the approximate number of pirates versus the average global temperature over the last 200 years. As you can see, there is a statistically significant inverse relationship between pirates and global temperature"

"A few days ago, I bought a little book entitled 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
Then I thought, humm ok, I'll do it, and I'd better start now, not getting any younger. So, daily, excluding any days I don't feel like it, for reasons of being high, drunk, on vacation or respecting the Sabbath, I'll post here a completely subjective review of one album.
This is set in chronological order and starts in 1955 with the popularisation of the Album format with Sinatra's 'In the Wee Small Hours' and finishes 999 Albums and 50 years later with the White Stripes' 2005 'Get Behind Me Satan'."

Ron Patrick's Street Legal Jet Powered Beetle - This is a my street-legal jet car on full afterburner. The car has two engines: the production gasoline engine in the front driving the front wheels and the jet engine in the back. The idea is that you drive around legally on the gasoline engine and when you want to have some fun, you spin up the jet and get on the burner (you can start the jet while driving along on the gasoline engine). The car was built because I wanted the wildest street-legal ride possible.
