Who is the most famous but least visually recognizable celebrity of the last century? Neil Armstrong? Authors seem like a good bet; Dr. Seuss was suggested in the comments.

In this day and age of declining record sales and illegal downloads, how can a musician add value to get the consumer's attention (and dollars)? Some artists offer tiers starting from just digital downloads to more expensive and lavish box sets full of interesting tchotchkies. Others keep going up the ladder to things like A day of mini-golf with Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), and the artist followed by them dumping you off by the side of the freeway.

I'm surprised it took me this long to hear about Layer Tennis. It's a "competition" where 2 artists play "tennis" with an image, sound file, or some other creative endeavour. Each artist gets 15 minutes to apply a new layer while in between there is live commentary from such internet luminaries as Gruber and Defective Yeti. You can follow tomorrow's match live on the site or with the twitter or of course later in the archive.

Barack Obama is TIRED of your motherfucking SHIT - so it seems that Obama's book Dreams from my Father recounts some stories of his friend Ray. And it seems that Ray was partial to the black slang. And it seems that the book has an audiobook version. And it seems that Obama narrated the Audiobook himself. And so it has come to pass that someone was able to cut out audio segments of our 44th president saying “You know that guy ain’t shit. Sorry-ass motherfucker ain’t got nothing on me” and “You ain’t my bitch, nigga! Buy your own damn fries!” and many other great lines.
And that means that people will be recontextualizing this in ways that continue to be funny for a long, long, long long time. (The original source of this is Mike Miliard at The Phoenix, with more mp3s there -- but not the nice little autoplayer doohicky.)
Freecycle is a non-profit organization registered in the state of Arizona, USA, and separately registered as a UK charity,[1] that organizes a worldwide network of "gifting" groups, aiming to divert reusable goods from landfills. It provides a worldwide online registry, and coordinates the creation of local groups and forums for individuals and non-profits to offer and receive free items for reuse or recycling, promoting gift economics as a motivating cultural outlook. I saw this come through the reader some time ago and now that I have watched it I can't believe I'm not hearing more about it: The Remnants is a 12 minute web pilot about people living in a post-apocalyptic world. It stars tons of cool people (Ze Frank, Ernie Hudson, Justine Bateman, Enrico Colantoni). And it is REALLY funny. Because the single episode is so short, it can't really get into the mythos of this universe and there is a lot of setup that doesn't yet pay off. I would LOVE to see this get turned into something more down the road.

The Smoking Gun roots out the major FBI informant that brought down the whole steroids scandal. A fairly compelling story especially if you (like me) have not been following what has been going on in the MLB steroid scene.
