Ever wondered what your Myers-Briggs "letters" were? This subject just came up today in emails with a friend of mine, turns out we have the same letters.
So at my last job there was one co-worker within R&D who was really into Myers-Briggs personality testing, she had read so much about it she could usually guess people's letters based on their behavior. I was an odd duck for her though and she needed me to take the test to figure it out. The reason for her confusion is cause until me she had never run across an ENFJ. Most of the folks in R&D were INTP's, go figure.
At my current job we actually had to take a personality test and had a workshop centered around learning more about our coworker's personality types and how to improve our communication with each other based on what we learned about each others communication styles from the personality testing. It wasn't Myers-Briggs but it had several common features. I actually found it to be a really good exercise.
So if you're ever wondered about the whole Myers-Briggs thing (choose the Jung typology test), the above link will let you know where you fall. I have a sneaking suspicion there will be a lot of INTP's here too. ; )
No time to retake it now, but last time I did this in college I was ESTJ.
ENFP (44/62/25/11). Hi Valatan. Quit Judging me Valanyn.
The list of comparables is the best part for sure: "Brenda Vaccaro" stands alone, but "Michael Jordan" is apparently some sort of "NBA basketball player".
And if you wondered too -- head shrinkers spell it extravert.
haha I wish I could but my J won't let me.
Clean your damn house! : )
ESTJ (33/1/12/56)
I don't know what that means. But I did see what Famous Personality had my trait and one was George W. Bush.
ESTP (1/50/62/11)
I'm reading too much into this.
Also I wonder if I broke it for myself by reading the wikipedia page first. So read that page for a definition of what the letters mean but take the test first.
Looks like I am now ISTJ (11/12/38/44)
This site gives a horoscope like description of all 16 types.
I notice that some folks have real low numbers on certain letters. If you have a low number then you're borderline, so you can really land on one side of the fence or the other on that attribute depending on mood at the time the test is taken.
and I totally agree with Nate, don't read the description links before you take the test, you may bias yourself. : )
INFP 33/62/75/33. I like that Mary, mother of Jesus is also INFP. I wonder who got her to take the test....
I'm thinking Doc Brown was responsible for that Beck. : )
and yes I'm bored at work killing time.
I started reading about my personality and lost interest right away. I scrolled down to skim and just catched a glimpse of this: "Though they are not interested in subjects they see no use for..."
HA HA HA
zieglerfe: Maybe losing interest right away is a core component of your personality!
beckto: We now officially have our first complete opposites in you and Vanalyn. Congratulations!
Here's another one for you Zig: "ESTJ humor is frequently centered around something or someone being off center or behaving abnormally."
No that's not you at ALL!. ; )
Yeah, I didn't read that part. I guess I lost interest in reading before getting to it.
And nate, I think you mean that our first opposites are either zieglerfe/beckto or me and mrflip and habcous
No wonder I was always weary of beckto...
ENFP (44/12/12/33). Does this mean I can only be friends with mrflip and valatan?
Well somehow I didn't even come close when I listed opposites earlier so cheers to me! And they say that sleep is an essential part of human existence, pshaw. I think I've proven my point. Wait, what?
ISTJ (33/1/75/78). I'm surprised no one has commented on some of the asinine questions, like "You willingly involve yourself in matters
which engage your sympathies." What the hell does that even mean? "Do you like to help little lost puppies?"
I took that question to mean "Would you choose to go to a movie if you knew it was going to make you cry?" I think there must be some types of people out there that enjoy feeling powerful emotions. I am not one of those people so I answered a resounding no.
Also, unrelated, mrflip has a block where he can't stop switching the letters from Vanalyn to Valanyn. Which personality letter do I win for pointing that out? Is there a "dickish" personality letter?
INTJ (11/25/38/11)
"...they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk.." Yup. that bit sums me up more than anything I have ever come across.
Guilty, but I did type Valatan right before Vanalyn each time.
ENFJ (33/25/12/33). Fictional ENFJ: Joe Hackett (Wings).
Ned I took the "you willingly involve yourself in matters which engage your sympathies" question to apply to a scenario such as, upset friend comes to you with a problem about something, are you the type of person who will willingly sit there and talk to them about it?
For me that answer is yes. Another example is that I actually once stopped on the side of the road on the way to Fredericksberg to pick a calf up off the shoulder of the highway who had squeezed it's way through a fence and put it back over the fence with its mother. I'm grateful it didn't crap on me.
Yes I'm all touchy feely squishy. I can admit it. ;)
Sweet, I am not alone! : D
Ned, I like to help little lost puppies..... that's why I'm an "F" and your a "T". How the hell are we married? I guess your "T" keeps my "F" from being the crazy cat lady.
I second Vanalyn's comment about the question. That is how I interpreted it.
But I wouldn't have touched or done anything with the calf. I don't care for animals. Pets belong in zoos.
and that's why I'm the type of person who goes to vet school and Ziggy isn't. ; )
Beckto hit that nail on the head. : ) Your "F" probably also helps Ned to stay connected to other living organisms. You balance each other.
oh, for chart purposes, I was 67/62/50/100
Holy crap valatan you are really effin EFNP. 100?
And Vanalynalanylin -- we need you to retake and post #s.
ask and ye shall receive...once again I came up ENFJ with a score of 56/62/62/67 on each attribute.
Correction Flip, Jerry has strong "P" with that 100. : D
He has extreme expression on everything -- even a 50 is pretty high. Taking the pythagorean sum of his scores, you two are the most expressed at 144 and 123 resp; nanocindy and zig are the most neutral at 48 and 66 resp.
Expect 4+1 axes of histograms once all precincts have reported.
Those are strong numbers, Vanalyn. I must be ENFJ-Lite.
Yay! I've now taken this 4 times and received 4 types. In high school I was ESTP, mid-20's INFP, late 20's INTJ, and now ENFJ (22 88 38 11)...
May surprise you that I think the test is bunk. I did have profs at UT who liked it, but none of my assessment or neuropsychology profs did...
Of course, you could argue that as I've matured/aged my personality type has changed somewhat. I would argue that is not personality, and has more to do with the vagaries of my mood at the time.
It would be fun to give yall a good measure of personality (MMPI-II, or mebbe the MCMI-III) and see what we look like as a group.
twit? ouch!
I think we can all agree that this is the ultimate personality type quiz.
I are part Carrie and part Miranda.
I know what I want out of a relationship and I are not afraid to keep moving until I get it. Also, I are drawn to women who can respect my independence and strength, and engage me intellectually. Wit and charm are my biggest turn-ons, and I like gals who appreciate me for my mind as much as my body. However, I are as hard on potential girlfriends as I are on myself.
It's a tough act to balance the demands of work and dating, but my cynical views on love make it even harder to find someone to take away the loneliness. I have fun playing the dating game, but secretly I just can't wait to find the gal who sweeps I off my feet and I carries into the sunset (after getting back up from the foot sweeping).
You are part Samantha. You value the physical over the emotional and draw a clear line between love and sex, viewing women largely as a means to an end. You relish the power that your sexuality gives you, and you are not afraid to use it in getting what you want. It's a man's world, and if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
You are part Miranda. You are drawn to women who can respect your independence and strength, and engage you intellectually. However, you are as hard on potential boyfriends as you are on yourself. It's a tough act to balance the demands of work and dating, but your cynical views on love make it even harder to find someone to take away the loneliness.

I am late to the party, and also ENTJ (56/25/a whopping 1/44). I took a M-B in high school and also again last year, and I'm always ENTJ, but usually it's the N and J that are borderline, not the T. China must be making me soft.
I am also mildly surprised to come up as Carrie.
Also, apparently none of my famous co-personalities needed elaboration: FDR, Sean Connery, Madonna, and Yulia Tymoshenko.
Wow, Timoshenko is a PMILF
According to the all-seeing Sex and the City test, I'm part Carrie, part Charlotte...no great shock there, translation: I know better but also can't help being a sentimental idiot. : D

Normally I'm more thinking and perceiving with perceiving and judging being close. Also: Carrie
And I'm Samantha, apparently.
Hey, how'd I become INFJ? Dr.FeelJ have that much disdain for my music taste that he doesn't want to share the same letters?

So far still no SFs... I am too lazy to look up what that means about this here collective consciousness.
All of the SitC girls, however, have at least partial representation.
I mean SatC. Rats.

I took this test in college once and I remember it have a couple of hundred questions and that was supposed to be the shorter version. I found a lot of the questions on this version rather broad and vague. Oh well. I don't remember what I was in college, but this ones discriptor seemed familiar.
oops, I reverseded it.

So, no representatives from the two most frequent (combined 26%) groups. I forget how to do a Χ2 test but I think we may safely assert our population is non-standard.
And I never suspected Richard Dawson to be such an introvert.

Maybe I'll try it again in a few days and see if it comes up the same. I haven't read anything about what they are all supposed to mean.
Does this thread win yet for most comments?
Carl and I have very similar letters... is that a good or bad thing?

ENFP. Weird, it hasn't changed since college. I always found these things fun.
The test informed me that one example of a famous ENFP was Bill Cosby, and in case I might not know who that was, it offered me the clarifaction that he was the protagonist from Ghost Dad.
