Style Invitational's Breeders Crop The best part of Kentucky Derby season: the yearly contest to name the foal produced by the improbable union of any two Kentucky Derby entrants. Ex: "Clemens + Sacred Icon = Scared Icon", or "Bonanza + Notgivinmyloveaway = Westward Ho"
Oh man, that's awesome. If I ever have a breeding stable it's going to be an endless succession of 'Phil McGroin's and 'Haywood Jablomie's coming out of, I guess, the Hialeah Young Stable.
or better yet the Happy Ending Mazzah Stable
Bucking bull breeders totally have that mentality for naming conventions. And the dirtier the connotation, the better.
Real life example:
sire: Sloppy Joe
dam: Wait a Second
offspring: Sloppy Seconds
I kid you not.
Between you and George, I demand a longer list. That rules.
Awesome.
I'll have to ask George when he's back in town. He can probably rattle off at least half a dozen like that without evening thinking hard.
In our happy little cloning world I think the funniest one I saw which showed humor as to the fact the offspring was cloned was....
original bull: Houdidi
clone of Houdini: Hou Made Hou
there's a new Houdini clone on the ground this year and I hear the owner is thinking of naming this one.... You are Hou
Those guys have really good senses of humor when it comes to naming their animals.
blah typo...that original bull is supposed to be Houdini.
George is back and here's a couple more for you:
Sire: Heat Seeker
Dam: Foreplay
offspring: Heated Foreplay
Sire: Cigar
Dam: Delighted Gal
offspring: Monica's Delight
apparently the aforementioned Hou Made Hou has been bred and has an interesting offspring also. He was bred to Payback and their offspring was named, Who's Your Daddy?
Those were the ones that immediately came to mind, George would have to dig back through some old semen catalogs (yes there is such a thing in the animal breeding world) to find some of the funnier ones.
Apparently the banner ads that decorate livestock pens at livestock shows get kinda racy too. George reported that one angus breeder had their sign "censored" by the livestock show officials because the bulls name was some play on Pamela Anderson's name so they had this very large banner up of Miss Anderson in a very tight, wet, white tee shirt. The show officials made them put stars over her very visible nips.
And you thought animal breeding was boring. : D
Awesome -- thank you both.
