Arsonist sets fire to TX Governor's mansion - large parts of downtown blocked off. You can see the roof buckling in the article's photo.
"The renovations, which had been scheduled for completion in the spring of 2009, included upgrading the building’s plumbing and installing a fire suppression system, she said. The building was equipped with fire alarms, but had no sprinkler system."
(also: surely one of these days some pol is going to rebrand the class-loaded 'mansion' with a folksier name?)
Photos of the fire damage on Austinist. Maybe Perry would like to rethink the financial impact of his temporary residence when the restoration bill gets updated to include fire damage.
Not like it matters -- turns out there's a bigger fire about to hit Texas, a mere 21 months after the last time the world ended (remember that?)

Man, we're lucky it wasn't worse. The Governor's hair care products probably combine to something like the equivalent of a thousand pounds of TNT or something.
