Trapped - This week in the magazine, Nick Paumgarten writes about the lives of elevators, and tells the story of Nicholas White, who was trapped in an elevator in New York City’s McGraw-Hill building for forty-one hours. Here is a condensed look at White’s ordeal, as captured by the building’s security cameras.
Is it wrong that I temporarily hoped that this was a post about "Trapped in the Closet Chapters 24-32: the package is stuck in the elevator"?
Most elevators (passenger type) seem to carry 2-4000 lbs in my experience.

Great article. I love elevators and am happy to defy the stereotype of women not looking outside the glass. I'm surprised that passengers in Asia are considered more patient (but not that they cram more people in); from what I observe, the incidence of people jabbing repeatedly at the close-doors button is much higher over here... which makes it all the funnier that it doesn't work. I did notice that an elevator I was on the other day had a capacity of 10 ppl, 680kg, and wondered whether the average on a US elevator is substantially higher.
