Our recent marathon "Insane Politics" thread got me wondering whether that had become our most-commented post yet. While waiting for some code to finish I jumped in and SQL'ed up the answer...

| 64 | natedogg | Let it be on, again. | What I know: mrflip returns at the end of the summer. What I've heard: MD 20/20 returns for a visit in September. What I remember: this (sorry, broken vid link. will fix upon return from florida, but you all know what we're talking about here). What I've seen: Lance laps Jan in a time trial. What I'd like to see: The gloves off. The gauntlet thrown. In this very thread. No one is saying you have to go with the guys you picked last year, MD or mr, but I want to see some sides chosen, some trash talked, and some debts settled up in the fall. Let's get it on! |

| 48 | Valatan | Insane apex of insane campaign | Well, today is the stupid date | set by the Iowa legislature for the insane Iowa caucuses. The candidates have been campaigning for insane marathon closing periods. The most recent polling has Obama gaining momentum, Clinton losing it, and Edwards holding stead, but pretty much with the three of them in a statistical tie.
On the Republican side, there is a statistical tie between Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, with John McCain and Ron Paul making strong late surges in the battle for third place. Edwards needs a win to stay alive, and McCain needs Romney to lose in order to stay alive. More about the caucus process in the extended for those that care. |

I don't want to spend a lot, but I also don't want to get stuck with some crap phone or crap plan so I'm willing to pay more for "quality". Or at least perceived quality. Use the comments to let me know what your experiences have been: what providers, what phones, what stories?? |

| 28 | splatnikGanglion | Rita | So it looks like Rita will be coming to texas. I would be prepared for power outages around here if there are tropical storm winds. You can save shit in your fridge by freezing bottles of water and using them to keep the fridge cool, although I doubt that the power will be off for long. Keep an eye out for tornado warnings because hurricanes tend to spawn tornadoes inland. The torrential rain could cause lowland flooding around town in places around creeks (shoal creek is a notorious flooder). I doubt any of you are stupid enough to drive through flooded creeks but remember that's a no-no. I'm a little bit worried about the flooding problem for the whole corridor between austin and san antonio. This area is known for its flash flooding as you saw in 2001 down in New Braunfels and I lived through during the '98 flood in san marcos. Anyways, this should be an interesting event and I'm curious to see if we get any hurricane force winds or if it will die out before it makes it all the way to us. |

| 26 | jenn | Bush label. | Being an American in Europe right now is kind of hard, mostly becasue I keep wanting to apologise to everyone I meet. Here is a lable from an American clothing company that embodies this feeling. I have also considered sewing little Maple leaves on all my clothes. I already like hockey. And Labatt's is good beer, eh? | |

| 24 | natedogg | sG and becky's posts today remind me of an idea I had been cultivating. I was just thinking the other day about how everyone has such different musical tastes (and this is borne out in that worst CD thread, certainly). I've discovered a lot of interesting and cool things from the music that others have suggested. I resurrected a memory of the mefiswap (where metafilter members trade mix CDs with each other) and wondered if we couldn't also do that here? Call it AEthermix. The idea: you make a CD and distribute it to others, and you get a CD from everyone else in return. Maybe you'd like to show people what cool new (or old!) stuff they've never heard of. Maybe you'd like to spend that 75 minutes playing OMD's "How Bizarre" and Supertramp's "The Logical Song" over and over until the disc ends. Does this capture anyone else's interest? (the overall idea, not the description of that last disc) more reasoned persuasion in the comments. |

| 24 | soku | Yo, Adrian. I did it. | TIME put out its 100 best novels of all time. The Magazine Editor's Society put out its best magazine covers of the last 40 years. Here's hoping that Stallone's latest doesn't make IMDB's 20th anniversary picks. | |

| 22 | habcous | Housing bubble | Think twice before buying a house right now | A good number of the AE readership has recently or will in the next couple years be finishing up school and heading into the "real world". Not to mention that the threads seem to have been started by a pretty even distribution of posters. Or at least in proportion to how often various people start threads in general.

I'm surprised, actually, at the diversity of what really sets people a'commentin'. A few sports smack-talk threads, a few politics vents, and a few of sG's more successful rant inducements, but nothing really seems to dominate, that I can tell. Topics range from cute fuzzy wittle kittens to cock vipers, hurricanes to cell phones.
