The late night shows return tonight with (WWP) and without (NBC) their writers.
The Daily Show and Colbert Report will start up again on Monday without their writers. I, for one, will be interested to see what these shows are like without written material.
The highlight - Conan plays guitar (the real kind) while some of his staff play Rock Band. (At 5:00 if you want to skip directly to Rock Band.)
Biggest surprise: Conan is not too shabby at guitar. He never struck me as the guitar god type. Greatest highlight: his insistence on singing in Rock Band only in the voice of Edith Bunker.
The last bullet point here gives the Sports Guy's breakdown of why the Letterman deal is a terrible move for the WGA (his credibility stems from 18 months as a writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live back in the day).
More and more it seems that they should have left the old contract in place until the actors' guild contract expired as well.
They're still correct on the merits of their argument and so I really, really hope they prevail. But I think the imminent return of The Wire and Battlestar Galactica may quell my Mother-Teacher-Secret-Lover jones, and I'm sure others have their own fix on the way.
I have been watching /much/ less TV since the writers strike dried the pipeline.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the film writers section of the WGA is getting grumbly about the fact that some TV writers get to go back to picking up paychecks.
