Dan Savage, while discussing "what percent of people have the gay" on the Savage Lovecast, claimed there were more homosexuals than Jews... which surprised me. If you think there is not a giant table of numbers after the jump, then we've never met.
Take a second and order/estimate the fraction of the US population that identify as:
- Jewish
- Among Men, self-identify sexuality as homosexual
- Among Women, self-identify sexuality as homosexual
- Any gender, self-Identify sexuality as "Something Else"
- Muslim
- Hindu
- Scientologist
- Atheist
- Native American, Alaskan Native, Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
- Asian, incl. Indian (dot), Southeast Asian, etc.
- Two or more races
I'm especially interested to hear if you over- or under-estimate the groups you identify to.
I had the numbers before I made guesses, but I would have vastly underestimated Atheists, "Something Else" sexuality, and multiracial; I'd have overestimated Muslims, Scientologists, and way overestimated Jews. Surprising for this ofey heeb to realize there are more Muslim+Hindu+Buddhist than Jews, and way more gay+bi than Muslim+Hindu+Buddhist+Jews. I also didn't know gay was more popular than lesbian.

I always heard a generic 5% number for the homosexual population which is almost right. If you google ten percent homosexual you get mostly right-wing and christian sites attempting to debunk 10%. It seems to come originally from Kinsey's numbers.
Well, add one more demographic datum to the UK census: listed as elderly, caucasian, non-muggle, homosexual. Start your cafepresses.

I way overestimated Asian and homosexual of both genders. (Don't you remember reading some survey that said 1 out of every 10 people is homosexual?) For the only group that I can lay claim to at the top, I guessed exactly right at 15%.
