Dark Matter: the movie. As mentioned in today's What's New, a new film about a disaffected physics graduate student that kills several people and himself during a departmental meeting. NYTimes has a nice writeup about the film. Based on a true story.
I vaguely recall a story from G. Sitz regarding a disaffected math doctoral student at Stanford. After 15+ years of graduate work (and never quite satisfying the adviser enough to graduate yet...), he murdered his adviser with a hammer. Though I don't remember the details.
I think this is the original article about the story that Jo Ann Beard, who knew all the people involved, wrote in the New Yorker and that later appeared in her book.

Wikipedia comes through in a pinch with a brief article about Gang Lu, the real-life physicist/shooter.
