A Question for the Alkaline Earth Community: if we held a Field Day on an upcoming weekend (perhaps on Mario Day, St. Patrick's Day, Forgive Mom & Dad Day, or World Tuberculosis Day)... what events are a must? The initial list of options includes sack races, 3-legged races...
... musical chairs
Tag?
Red Rover
Razorblade AKA Baby in the air
Cake Walk
Hopscotch
I never participated in the Dork-Olympics...are these the same kinds of events? Help fill out a list and mention if you have equipment you can provide.
Wallball? Foursquare?
blind man's beer, like in the outdoorsman.
schwagball
washers
bocce
(those are all paired events, like the 3 legged race)
Shit, I haven't played bocce since I was a kid. Can you find a set of balls down here?
I realize the gross inappropriateness of this but...I can only imagine valatan holding out "the hand sign" while he says that last sentence.
I have a set of bocce balls. I don't have a set of washers, but flip could build it in a minute. I can assemble a schwagball set for you in about the same (I may have to rent the schwags from a Keg supply place, but it ain't much). blind man's beer takes about a case or so for all of us (4 brews per pair of people) and some rope or cord to outline our boundaries.
Foursquare, dodgeball, kickball; watermelon seed spitting; three-legged race; chicken fighting.
I'd like to have a running of the Tridorkathalon: Dizzy Run, pedal Big Wheel around obstacle course, Slip 'n' Slide as run, bike, swim. This requires getting hold of two big wheels and a slip'n'slide.
Also, Hot Sauce tasting -- with actually potent hot sauce this time. Or just "Danger Foods" as a multipoint event (1 point per danger food).
egg toss? no boiling in advance, natch.
tug of war?
my school's Sports Day used to have a team event that involved a giant (Alkaline) Earth ball (i'm guessing 7' diameter) that you had to push, roll, bat, or otherwise get back to your side of the field. Much scraping and bruising resulted, which is really the point, right?
I'd love to play the 7' ball game.
Also, my school (like many) had a large parachute with the strings cut off. That meant sweet ass games like popcorn where everyone moves the parachute up and down to jump balls around in the center. Unfortunately, having looked for one of appropriate size for adults, they are not cheap.
The parachute thing is actaully a pretty standard PE item for all elementary school kids. Did you by any chance look in PE education supplies?
wait, not derbies. straw boaters
