I would argue that, thanks to Calgary and Alberta, there are a ton of Canadian cowboys. Yet, you never hear Europeans (or the author) complaining about the Canadian cowboy culture.
But, then again, wouldn't this just validate the authors' point beyond the point that he even realizes--he doesn't even know what life in the US is like, much less Europe--how the hell could Europeans know what life here is like?

Hilarious, except that the writer is not from Texas, nor the West nor the South, according to his hand-tipping statement:
"I can't think of any modern American who gives a shit about cowboys, even metaphorically."
Uhhhmmm, while perhaps they shouldn't, a lotta people still do.
