Gov. Perry actually does something we can agree with?
Though I tend to agree with you, javelina, I also suspect that if you buy enough vaccine for every eligible girl in this huge state you might get a bit of a volume discount...
I heard that and was blown away. I mean, wow, whatever conservative angle he found to talk himself into this, I wholeheartedly support.
The evidence is there, however, that Texas has a whole lotta people not abstaining. We tend to dominate in the most pregnant teens per some unit of population type of categories. Yay, bible belt! So, Texas is naturally sorely in need of such a measure, but how'd he pull it off with his conservative base?!?!
This same sort of thing was causing a bit of a shitstorm in DC. Same kinda dumb shit about implying that girls as young as 11 were having sex and so needed to get the vaccine at that age. Then cuz DC is predominantly black people started saying that it was cuz of that and blah and crap and as far as I know the only reason is the vaccine works better if you get it when you are younger.
I'm going back to bed now.
The cynic inside of me thinks that this might have helped Perry's decision.

Interesting. So, I've been told that a complete Gardasil treatment is ~ $600 on the open market. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I think that this proposition will likely be shot down on "costs too much" grounds long before any meaningful social debate takes place, seeing as how the State of Texas is a bit short on cash lately.
