Waffles: Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Good luck to all of you...
Oh Claw and Andy, I am sorry. I hope Waffles gets better soon.
Thank you for the good wishes. He's made some improvement but he's basically in a coma. We still have hope, but as time goes by things don't look so good. We have our fingers crossed.
When I was a kid, my parents gave my sister and me the awesome power to name our chihuahua. I chose Taco, naturally, and at that time my parents took the power to name our dog back with the rationale, "I don't want to yell 'Taco!' out our back door." (She was eventually named Rocky and the reason why is complicated). When I eventually got the power to name a pet again (this time when living by myself) I tried a bunch of names but opted for Cat or, sometimes, Stinky.
In summary, I salute any animal named after a foodstuff and hope that he or she recovers as quickly and completely as possible. I know what taking care of a really sick cat is like and it's not fun.
Like everyone else, I'm so sorry to hear about Waffles. I think that one of the worst things about owning a pet is having to see them after something tramatic happens. When I was 14, I saw our outdoor cat get hit by a car. While relatively rare for a human to endure a similar incident, that sort of thing happens all the time with pets, and it is just awful to witness and deal with the aftermath on so many different levels. The whole situation is unfair, and you and Waffles have my best wishes. Please keep us updated - I know a great kitty toy that would make for good physical therepy/ rehab.
