I have a thing for maps, especially public transportation maps -- but others too. So I thought these were neat.
There's a lot of other cool stuff on this site as well, like a link to find any ship, anywhere.
Gotta love that sweet system in Houston. Do you want to be this one place or that other place?
There's one of the six maps that you may not recognize among the others at the second link above (Mobile Manhattan). Why, that's none other than Door County, Wisconsin! Look just south of the red star and you'll find Egg Harbor which is the tiny town that soku and I spent a week at in the beginning of July. We visited all the towns on the peninsula and even went over to Washington Island. What strikes me is how crazy tiny New York is compared to that area. Also, it isn't stretching to say that it probably takes the same amount of time to commute end to end on that island and the whole of Door County.
Not to mention the totally efficient St. Louis system that'll take you from 40 miles into Illinois out to about 2/3 of the way west through the suburbs.
You're with me, jackass yuppie voters in the west suburbs.
Those Manhattan maps were kind of crazy - I didn't think that Manhattan would fit into the Deleware River that close to Philadelphia, either.
OK, I actually know nothing about ships except that I like sitting on the ocean, so i was probably exaggerating and TWITB is right about fishing vessels and tugboats and, um, anything else small and floaty. Sorry!
And thanks to Nate for IDing Door County -- my co-worker was curious about that and I never got around to looking it up. Also, I realized that I posted the wrong subway-maps link; the one I was thinking of is actually from a different site, and even neater. Who knew Paris's system was so "small"?
it would have been so freakin cool to watch the fishing boats chug around kodiak island.
