Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors, an unreleased game for the SegaCD, has found a new life as a bootleg on the internet. If you look at the screenshots or listen to the attached MP3, you'll see that this was no Sonic clone or even a Night Trap ripoff. Mini-games you could play included Desert Bus in which you drive from Tucson to Vegas in real time (8 hours!) and for which you earn one point. You can't just prop up the controller because the bus veered subtly to the right so you had to keep correcting it the entire time. There were also several multiplayer games that (as Penn gleefully describes in his podcast) had cheats that only the game owner would know so that their controller would always win by a tantalizingly small amount. If asked to switch controllers, you could hit a panic button that would make the other controller win.
They say you can just burn a copy to any disc (no copy protection!) and play it on the original machine but unfortunately my SegaCD died on one of my many moves around the city so I can't try it as it was meant to be played.
My genesis still works so I only need the add-on...then again, the computer emulator mentioned is free. Also, I'm thinking that experiencing "Desert Bus" is less awesome than hearing about it, though I am curious about the "adventure" part of the game.
