CycleTexas.com: Here to assist cyclists with creating self-guided cycling weekends in the "Cycling Capital of Texas", CycleTexas.com provides free, detailed information about cycling routes over the best cycling roads in Texas as well as other useful information targeted to bicycling guests.
I'd love to see a google maps overlay with the austin bike routes. Wanna try and make one?
for the people (me) who are sissies, a how-to guide for crossing the river.
method 1: Take lamar sidewalk to the lamar pedestrian bridge (so, best is the east sidewalk). cross. follow HB trail east to sidewalk along ceasar chavez. stay on sidewalk to light for lavaca/south 1st. cross here (with light) and go one block west on sidewalk to whatever that road is. go north 2 blocks, on road because it is low traffic. turn left at first stop sign (4th st). turn right at next stop sign (nueces). take nueces to wherever you want, specifically campus.
method 2: Take mary/heather to South 5th street. take south 5th street to riverside. take riverside to either lamar ped bridge or south 1st ped bridge. cross. continue as above.
Nueces is great. The roads to its west and the roads to its east all have hills and dips and lights -- but Nueces is just a constant gentle incline with almost exclusively stop signs.
Problem with Nueces is that it's 5 blocks away from congress and congress is the most direct route to RLM. It's a waste of time to take that route and it's kindof a pain in the ass to get there by your instructions.
I guess it's worth the peice of mind because of safety but it's hard to motivate myself to expend the extra effort. You can quote me on that when I get run over on lavaca or congress...

Do they have a map of how to get over the river without getting run over by a car?
