I was nervous enough about kissing girls as a teenager but I never feared this. Talk about traumatic...
I think that many other allergies and other immune system problems have been rising the last few decades. It could be that we are just keeping better medical records of the allergies or that people are getting sensitized more frequently (like their peanut lotion theory) or both.
I never knew that Mr. Peanut kissed 15 year-old girls. *cough* Child molester. *cough*
Also, we are sheltering young children more than we used to, certainly. It could be that they don't hae the chance to develop an immunity to allergens as small children, and thus, devleop much larger allergies late in life.
Alternately, it could be that 100 years ago, children with allegies just died during young childhood.

I wonder what the rise in peanut allergies is attributed to.
