Havard Hysterics What the f**k? This is an article by George Will about the recent controversy over a speech made by the President of Harvard. I know that I should not take this seriously...but here it is...in the Washington Post...one of the top e-mailed articles. All I can say is, feminism now, feminism forever!
I laughed when I was reading that. It made me think of Jon Stewart, CNN cancelling crossfire and about how many pundits don't have anything interesting to say, and just try to stir up controversy.
Rather than doing something helpful and interesting, like siting relevant studies, explaining them further and talking about the merits or problems with them, he goes off on some diatribe about how this is representative of liberal politics? He's just trying to get angry people to write him responses back so he can prove to his editor that people actually read his garbage.
Yeah, that also made me laugh. It was pure ridiculousness. I especially enjoyed the use of "hysteric" to describe a prominent female professor. Like somehow, getting so angry that you feel ill is a problem men don't deal with. Ha. Whatever.
I, for one, think that George Will represents the voice of both the staunch republican and the avid baseball fan, so, you know, watch out for those baseball fans.
Also, note that "hysteria" used to be a vague catch-all term equating to "undiagnosed chick disease" and the only cure was medically prescribed orgasm (or "paroxysms" as they were nicely known once upon a time). This in turn led to the invention and improvement of the vibrator, so maybe it isn't all bad to be "hysterical". Bonus trivia: if you have a Y chromosome and you retrieve this book in the PCL, expect to receive a look somewhere between shock and bemusement when you reach the young lady working the checkout counter.
Just so you know, natedogg, because I clicked on that book on Amazon, I am now being recommended the following books:
Toygasms! The Insider's Guide to Sex Toys and Techniques by Sadie Allison
Sexing the Body by Anne Fausto-Sterling
The Real Thing by Miles Orvell
White Women, Black Men by Martha Hodes
Devices and Desires by Andrea Tone
Thanks, natedogg.
Leave it to boys to take this politics of science discussion and turn it into talking about sex.
Sex? What? Where?
I must say that this would make that yuck anual dr.'s visit much more fun....
I like that: "that yuck annual Dr.'s visit". I am going use that in the future.
True story: I had some cavities drilled at that yuck biannual DDS's visit just yesterday.
Hey, Ziggy, I think I like it too!
I almost got kicked out of a yuch annual Dr.'s office once for playing with the plastic fetus.
I was not a kid, this happened three or four years ago.
Another true story: When I was in undergrad, I went to the yuck annual Dr. visit, but at a planned parenthood place because student health was sketchy. In the waiting room, I saw my roommate's boyfriend exit the exam room and leave, but not before I said "hi, how are you doing?" to create the maximum amount of tension and embarrassment.

It's the standard asshole conservative M.O. boohoo! We are so oppressed! We control everything, and represent those with all life's advantages, but we're so held down! If only others would accept their role in life, everything would be peachy!
And also note that he doesn't note that conservatives have used Summers speech as an excuse to make all sorts of outrageously idiotic claims.
